Articulation Index Calculation

The articluation index can be computed for your patient's thresholds using one of two methods: ANSI S3.5-1969 (R 1986) ANSI Methods for Calculating AI, Octave Band Values, Preferred Frequencies. or Pavlovic's (1991) Articulation Index Method. The ANSI (1986) method requires thresholds for 250,500,1000,2000, and 4000 Hz and the Pavlovic (1991) method requires those frequencies plus 1500,3000, and 6000 Hz.

Please enter your patient's thresholds below. It is important to enter thresholds for all frequencies listed above. If you did not measure a threshold at any of the required frequencies it would be better to interpolate the number, as opposed to leaving the value at zero.

AI Method

Calculation of the Articulation Index can vary by the method used. Read our AI tutorial to find out more about the method used above and other paper and pencil methods that can be used.
